A Mere Human

A god on one side, a demon on the other,

Each gazed upon him, and together they muttered:

"What will you choose?" they asked with glee,

"To be an angel of light, or a dark devil set free?"

With calm resolve, he answered clear,

"I wish to be human, flawed yet sincere."

The demon laughed, a rumbling sound,

"A mere human? Weak and earthbound?"

But the voice replied with gentle grace,

"For in a human heart, both find their place.

A human walks with angel's light,

Guided by blessings, pure and bright.

Yet he feels the devil’s dark embrace,

A longing pulse, a tempting trace.

He sees the world as heaven’s art,

Painted by gods, a work of heart.

But when the sun dips low from sight,

He dances deep in devil’s night.

So spoke the man, in tones serene,

Both shadow and light in me convene.

I am neither wholly pure nor profane,

But a mortal soul, both sun and rain."

The god withdrew with a knowing smile,

The demon lingered, baffled for a while.

Together they left, as he stood alone,

A human, made of flesh and bone.

"For in a heart where opposites blend,

Angels and demons become old friends.

The path he treads, a fragile line,

Balancing forces both divine and malign.

And thus he walks, through joy and grief,

A mortal bound by bold belief.

In every choice, both light and dark,

His soul a canvas, life leaves its mark."
